Simple, compact devices, training remotes are small floating spheres equipped with relatively harmless blasters and an array of sensors. Jedi in training use remotes to hone their lightsaber skills, and their attunement to the Force. A Jedi hopeful typically wears a vision-obscuring blast shield and then uses the Force to visualize the remote's location and actions, and attempts to block any incoming shots with his blade. A missed block results in a painful sting, and a wounded pride. The most common model of remote is the Marksman-H , used extensively by sharpshooters to polish their skills. Han Solo owned one with which he refined his quickdraw abilities, firing at the remote with light-only blasts. The Empire also deploys modified remotes known as seekers, which are armed with deadly blasters and can be programmed to hunt down and kill specific targets.
Remotes are simple droids without independent initiative that can only act on orders given by their owners. Typically, remotes are programmed to serve as combat training tools. In this capacity, the remote's on-board computer houses dozens of combat drills. As the training sessions intensify, the remote begins to move more quickly and attack with more intense bursts of energy. In the most extreme cases, the remote's stun blasts can render the trainee unconscious. Remotes can also be programmed to serve as microphones, cargo lifters, baggage carriers, and long-range surveillance units. The Empire's "seeker" units are modified remotes designed to seek out and kill Imperial enemies. Typical seekers have a pair of blasters, an incredibly sensitive sensor suite, and the ability to interface with almost any computer system.
