Five thousand years before the rise of the Empire, Aarrba the Hutt was a denizen of Cinnagar, principal city of Koros Major, a world that would eventually become known as Empress Teta in honor of the warlord that united the system. Aarrba operated a repair and salvage service dock in Cinnagar, where crippled starships could be repaired quickly, quietly and affordably, with limited guarantees. Contrary to popular stereotypes about the Hutts, Aarrba was altruistic, despite his well maintained reputation of a shrewd business-being. Though Aarrba had a sophisticated security system to protect his wares from thieves, he often discreetly lowers prices and extended credit to those he trusted.
Among his customers were the supply runners Hok and Timar Daragon, who flew badly needed aid to the besieged loyalist forces on Kirrek, the last planet of the Koros system to resist unification. Aarrba extended credit to the Daragons for repairs on their ship, Shadow Runner, while keeping their other vessel, Starbreaker 12 as collateral during their delivery runs. When word reached Aarrba that Hok and Timar were killed by the ongoing war on Kirrek, he released Starbreaker 12 to the Daragon children, Gav and Jori. Saddened by the deaths of the elder Daragons, Aarrba reasoned that they had paid off any debts in blood. The Daragons then attempted to carve out a career as hyperspace explorers, blazing new navigational routes into poorly charted regions of space.
Before long, a string of misfortunes put the young Daragons into Aarrba's debt. The Starbreaker 12 was once again in his possession. The Daragons were on the run from a commerce baron who sought to exact vengeance over faulty navigational data. Jori and Gav stole back the Starbreaker 12 and fled into unknown space. In the very depths of territories unexplored by the Republic, the Daragons discovered the Sith Empire. While filing a report on the crime, Aarrba implored officials to not let word escape that Aarrba had extended credit to the Daragons. His reputation should have been the least of his worries. Jori Daragon escaped the Sith clutches and returned to the Republic. A disappointed and betrayed Aarrba had little patience for her outlandish tales of an evil forgotten empire.
Aarrba, and the rest of the Republic, should have listened to her warning. An enormous Sith invasion followed, sparking the Great Hyperspace War that tore many worlds and civilizations asunder. Vicious Massassi warriors laid siege to Koros Major, with Gav Daragon among their ranks. Infuriated, Aarrba spat upon Gav as they were reunited, and Daragon's Massassi protectors slew the Hutt, cutting open his tough hide with their razor-sharp blades. Like other Hutts, Aarrba was a large, slug-like being with tough oily skin, orange eyes, and a wide slavering mouth. He rested within a repulsorlift cradle that aided his mobility. He often wore a simple vest and a cylindrical, tasseled hat.
