Giddean Danu
Basic Information -
Homeworld: Kuat
Species: Human
Gender: Male
Height: 1.96 meters
Affiliation: Galactic Senate
Movie Information -
A grim, humorless man for grim, humorless times, Giddean Danu was a loyalist Senator during the end days of the Clone Wars. For his consistent clarity of voice, and unwavering reason and restraint during these tumultuous times, he was invited by Senators Bail Organa and Mon Mothma into a inner circle of alarmed political idealists struggling to develop a plan to counter Chancellor Palpatine's ascent in power. Danu was pragmatic. He recognized how deeply the Senate was corrupted and how few within its ranks acknowledged its moral decay. He felt that the nascent rebellion needed the support of the Jedi order in order to succeed.
Expanded Universe -
Giddean Danu put great stock in his ability to weigh complicated matters dispassionately and arrive at a reasoned solution. As Senate representative for the world of Kuat, he was put in the difficult political position during the Clone Wars. Home to the foundries and shipyards that produced a large portion of the Republic's military hardware, Kuat benefited economically and politically from the war, though Danu chafed at any intimation that the system was profiteering from the conflict.
Many in Kuat's upper administrative echelons, having insinuated their way into Palpatine's good graces, pursued hawkish agendas to widen the conflict. Danu stood seemingly alone in opposing the war, a position that almost had him recalled from office by the Kuati electorate twice. His devotion to the "big view" of the greater galactic good drew criticism from influential industrialists who put Kuat first. When truly conflicted, Danu turned to the Jedi for advice. He had established a strong relationship with several in the order, and greatly respected the guardians of peace and justice.
