An influential Senator during the Clone Wars, Chi Eekway was a member of the inner circle of loyalists that advised Chancellor Palpatine during those trying times. She grew increasingly concerned with the Chancellor's expanding executive powers, and was one of a cabal of Senators determined to preserve democracy in the Senate, no matter the cost. In the earliest days of dissent against the burgeoning Empire, Eekway advised patience. Enveloped in heavy robes with only her blue-skinned face visible, Eekway was rumored to have close contact with the mysterious Baron Papanoida.

Expanded Universe -

As a young and impetuous Twi'lek from Wroona, Senator Chi Eekway's sphere of control included areas of space dominated by unallied trader guilds that often stretched the limits of Republic law. She learned valuable lessons trying to govern citizens who cherished their frontier spirit. It spoke well of her skills to have earned the respect of a people well known for their disdain for government. Her devotion to Wroonian spirituality -- visible in details found in the ornate molf-tasseld overcloak she wears -- helped her earn support and respect. Her near-supernatural levels of empathy helped her quell even the most contentious of politicial disputes. Perhaps her tenure during a time when an overriding Republic was drawing power away from the individual sectors colored the views of her fiercely independent constituents.

For her exposure to a rough-and-tumble culture of law-benders, Eekway learned the art of the bluff and a diplomatic style more confrontational than the usual measured approaches found in the Senate. In heated exchanges, she has even been known to drop veiled hints at the power her allies could bring to a dispute. Eekway maintained a mysterious working relationship with Baron Papanoida, an information-broker and powerful guild-baron of questionable allegiance operating in her sector. Some whisper that Eekway is merely Papanoida's puppet in the Senate, peddling his influence through a clever front. Another tale, never proven, was that Papanoida's interest in Eekway was strictly familial, and that the Senator had blood ties to the enigmatic Baron.
