Movie Information -
Zev flew as Rogue Two while stationed at Echo Base on Hoth. He was the pilot that discovered the near-frozen forms of Han Solo and Luke Skywalker, after the two had gone missing overnight during a Hoth blizzard. Zev also flew in the Battle of Hoth, where his snowspeeder was blown out of the air by AT-AT walkers, killing the Rebel pilot.
Expanded Universe -
Zev was originally from Kestic Station, in the Bestine system. Zev's parents, traders, were sympathetic to the Alliance cause and often ran weapons for the fledgling Rebellion. Zev joined the Rebellion at an early age. The Empire cracked down on Kestic Station, and killed his parents.
Zev at first blamed the Rebellion for bringing such tragedy into his life. He later realized the true nature of the Empire, and this galvanized his resolve to fight Palpatine's forces.
